DESIGN APPROACH

For this new two and a half storey semi-detached house, we took advantage of the longish site by the placing a 15m long lap pool at the side of the house. The front elevation faces the afternoon sun, 5m high aluminium movable screen doors provides a typical environment filter which enables the couple to have the options to slide the screens at night to enjoy the luxurious view of the houses.

This interior of the house encapsulates the essence of living in the tropics by creating open spaces that encourages natural ventilation and offer the family connectivity between the spaces. The house unfolds dramatically into a double volume dining area once you pass the living area. This was achieved by creating double volume above the dining area. Traditionally, dining areas are dim and separated from the rest of the house, but not in this house.

A cantilever staircase supported at one end with solid teak wood stairs that float over the internal koi pond and into a three- storey air well. Two bedrooms, a study and a master bedroom are contained on the second storey. The double volume space in the dining creates the space of interaction between the two spaces. On the attic level, a bar and entertainment area were created with a panoramic views of Bartley.
